Position: Maintenance Mechanic


The Mechanic will perform preventative maintenance & emergency repairs to all packaging machinery, striving to improve equipment reliability & quality, as part of the maintenance team.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Fill out daily log reports, emergency breakdown reports, work orders, and communicate with incoming shifts.
  • Perform machine set up and repair assembly and packaging equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance routines on all production equipment.
  • Ability to work on low voltage and 120-480vac equipment, starters, motors, vfd’s, sensors, controllers, photo-eyes, etc.
  • Install, debug and stabilize plant equipment as required.
  • Read schematics and blueprints to interpret, diagnose, and troubleshoot electrical and pneumatic issues to properly and safely repair.
  • Perform repairs and upgrades of the machinery and equipment to ensure proper operation.
  • Install electronic parts and hardware, using soldering equipment and hand tools
  • Assist in Production/Maintenance related assignments as needed.
  • Communicate regarding issues and problems solve with Production staff any quality and safety concerns.
  • Perform electrical and distribution lock out/ tag out method steady with customary safety protocol.
  • Record maintenance data as directed by the Maintenance supervisor to monitor equipment performance, i.e. work orders
  • Identify and report equipment concerns to the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Participate in overtime assignments as required.
  • Mechanic is required to supply their own hand tools and a lockable toolbox.
  • Working in a general manufacturing environment.
  • Perform various other similar and related duties as required by the Plant Manager.


Qualifications:


  • Experience in equipment maintenance
  • Experience with Pneumatics, Hydraulics and Electrical
  • Ability to withstand wet, cold (35-40F), humid and hot environments,
  • Must be able to bend, reach, kneel, stand for extended hours,
  • Must be able to climb ladders,
  • Must be able to move heavy objects.
  • Must have experience with the following machines: Tiromat packaging machines & Drake Loaders
  • Meat processing facility knowledge. 5 plus years’ experience preferred.


PPE/Tools


  • Safety toe footwear
  • Hairnet, beard net (if applicable), bump cap, frock


  • If needed: safety glasses, hearing protection, rubber boots


Safety


  • Expected to work continuously in a safe manner, and to encourage others to work in a safe manner


  • Expect to maintain good housekeeping, and report any unsafe conditions


Food Safety/Quality


  • Adhere to all GMP’s (Good Manufacturing Practices), such as a good hand washing practices and adhering to employee hygiene plan
  • Follow all USDA guidelines
  • Report any issues regarding food safety or quality
