Morales Professional Services is currently recruiting for an Associate Director, Metallurgical
Coatings, for a long-standing client in the Indianapolis metro market. As a leader in the surface
coating, metal powders market, this role will serve to lead the surface technical execution for new
product introduction including development plans, process definition, qualification support, and
transition to full-scale production.
Specific Requirements:
- You will serve as the senior technical expert in gas atomization, alloy melting, powder processing, and spray drying of Ni-based, Co-based, Fe-based, Cu, and Ti alloys
- You will provide technical leadership to Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, R&D, and Commercial teams to solve complex metallurgical and process challenges
- Drive the development of new alloys, atomization methods, and processing technologies that support customer needs and emerging market opportunities
- You will identify, evaluate, and implement engineering tools, methodologies, and process improvements that enhance capability, efficiency, and cost performance
- You will monitor external technology developments and translate relevant advancements into scalable manufacturing solutions
- Further you will partner with Commercial teams to deliver strong technical support for key customers in thermal spray and additive manufacturing markets
- You will support strategic growth initiatives by contributing technical analysis, capital recommendations, equipment specifications, and feasibility assessments
- Additionally, you will guide the design, installation, and startup of new processing equipment in partnership with Engineering and Operations
- You will lead, mentor, and develop technical staff while fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- You will model safety, integrity, and operational excellence across laboratory, manufacturing, and customer‑facing environments
Requirements:
Ph.D in Material Science, Metallurgy or similar with a background in powder atomization or relevant metallurgical discipline with 10 years in powder manufacturing or metallurgical processing. Seeking candidates with leadership qualities, having at last 3 years in a leadership position. Candidate must have:
- Expert-level knowledge in gas atomization and metallurgical process development.
- Material science background, thermal and mechanical processes, and alloy design
- Demonstrated history of solving complex problems in manufacturing.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including proven track record of delivering executive-level presentations
Salary : $150,000 - $200,000
