Key Responsibilities
Safety Leadership
- Promote Safety: Maintain a proactive, zero-incident safety culture across all engineering and maintenance activities.
- Procedure Development: Partner with the Safety Department to review, revise, and develop robust safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and Safe Cell Entry.
- Document Control: Review and approve "controlled" technical documentation on an annual basis to ensure compliance.
- VPP Support: Actively assist and support OSHA Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) initiatives and audits.
Project Management & Engineering
- Scope Development: Write comprehensive Scope of Work (SOW) documents covering mechanical, electrical, and civil requirements clear enough for external vendor bidding.
- Project Documentation: Develop detailed project schedules, timelines, costing spreadsheets, and equipment layouts.
- Contractor Management: Oversee external contractors and resources during general maintenance, equipment modifications, and major capital projects.
- Design & Drafting: Utilize Autodesk products (AutoCAD Mechanical/Electrical or Inventor) to read, modify, and develop engineering drawings.
- Equipment Installation: Lead the rigging, civil placement, mechanical/millwright setting, electrical powering, and system integration of new machinery.
- Commissioning: Direct full startup and commissioning phases to transition equipment smoothly to production.
Technical Supervision & Plant Support
- Supervise Technical Staff: Advise, mentor, and supervise multidisciplinary teams, including IT staff, various engineering disciplines, and skilled trades (mechanical and electrical).
- Production Support: Provide high-level technical troubleshooting and engineering support for plant production equipment and industrial controls.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Experience: 5 years of hands-on engineering experience in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment (glass manufacturing or continuous processing industry experience is highly preferred).
- Controls Expertise: Proven proficiency with industrial automation systems, specifically:
- Rockwell Automation / Allen-Bradley ControlLogix Safety Processors and controls.
- Beckhoff PLC’s and Industrial Controls
- Siemens PCS-7
- Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
- HMI Platforms – i.e. FactoryTalk | WinCC
- Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in AutoCAD (Electrical/Mechanical) or Inventor; deep understanding of civil, mechanical, and electrical integration requirements for heavy machinery.
- Leadership Traits: Strong supervisory skills with the ability to coordinate with engineers, IT professionals, and union or non-union skilled trades.
