Carabetta Property Management is looking to hire an experienced Recertification Specialist to work out of their Hartford, CT location!
The HUD/Section 8 Recertification Specialist is responsible for managing the annual and interim recertification processes for Project Based and LIHTC or Section 8 program participants in accordance with HUD regulations and Connecticut state housing policies. This role ensures compliance, maintains accurate records, and provides excellent service to tenants and landlords.
Pay: $22/hr to start depending on Experience
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm
The responsibilities of a Recertification Specialist are:
- Conduct annual and interim recertifications for project based residents, ensuring compliance with HUD and LIHTC guidelines.
- Collect, verify, and process documentation related to income, assets, expenses, and household composition.
- Calculate rent and Housing Assistance Payments (HAP) using HUD regulations and internal software systems (e.g., Yardi).
- Issue rent change notices and update tenant files accordingly.
- Ensure timely completion of all recertification tasks to prevent subsidy interruptions or terminations.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with residents and internal staff regarding program rules, required documents, and deadlines.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date resident files and electronic records in accordance with HUD audit standards.
- Prepare and submit reports to supervisors or regulatory agencies as required.
- Participate in audits, inspections, or reviews conducted by HUD, state, or local agencies.
- Stay current on HUD regulations, CT housing laws, and program changes through ongoing training and development.
The requirements of the Recertification Specialist are:
- Minimum of 2 years experience in HUD housing programs, Section 8/LIHTC, or property management - REQUIRED
- Working knowledge of HUD regulations, Fair Housing laws, and CT affordable housing programs. - REQUIRED
- Proficiency in housing software (Yardi)
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail & excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize tasks.
- Bilingual Spanish - MUST
- Certified Occupancy Specialist (COS)
- Tax Credit Specialist (CP3 and higher)
Salary : $22 - $27
