Role Description
Energetic, organized and industry experienced Project Manager required to help manage very active museum accounts for Manassas, VA based full-service exhibit company. Position requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, knowledge of fabrication and installation sequencing, multi-tasking and a positive attitude.
This is a hybrid position – both office and field. This is not a work from home position. The amount of travel will vary each year, depending on where installations take place, but assume that 50% of your time will be on national installations.
For larger projects, it will be expected that the PM will remain on-site through the duration of installation, which may be anywhere from 1 week to 2 or 3 months at a time.
The Fabrication Project Managers and Graphic Project Managers are full-time, in office positions. They sometimes go to local installations but rarely go to installations outside the DC area. The Installation Project Manager will go to all national installations and some local installations.
Must be able to travel to both local and national installation sites. 5 years prior museum exhibit project management and exhibit fabrication experience required.
Installation Project Manager (PM) will be responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of museum installations to ensure successful project completion. Specific job responsibilities include:
Before Installations Begin:
- Working as a team with the Fabrication Project Manager, Graphic Project Manager, Account Executive, Production Manager, Shop Foreman, and Install Lead to ensure on budget, on schedule installations.
- Assist Fabrication Project Manager and Graphic Project Manager with development of detailed installation schedules, including identifying critical path sequencing and potential delays.
- Review already produced contract documents and identify additional documentation needed for installation. Work with the office-based project team to develop all documents before installation begins.
- Attend installation kick-off meetings.
- Must have experience managing a wide variety of subcontractors including Casework, Lighting, AV Hardware & Integration, Artifact Mountmaking, Scenic work and other specialty vendors. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) are a requirement.
During Installations:
- Responsible for day-to-day in-person client liaison/interaction while on site. Must be personable, highly responsive, and able to react quickly to site conditions. Requires problem-solving abilities and good communication skills. Attention to detail and organization is a MUST for this position.
- Must be able to work with a diverse group of individuals (clients, vendors, sales, project managers, designers, and production) and react positively to project demands, deadlines and problems with the utmost professionalism.
- Work with in-house staff to solve problems arising from site conditions, or answer immediate questions.
- Ability to work overtime while on job sites to meet deadlines is expected and required for this position.
- Work as a team with CMS installers to achieve an efficient installation process.
- Communicate directly with vendors to ensure adherence to installation schedule and budget.
- Send daily reports to the office-based project team.
- Manage the completion of all punchlist items and get sign-off from client before the install team demobilizes from site.
- Document installation progress for close out documents.
