What are the responsibilities and job description for the Intern - Teacher (SA) (53412) position at CAPITAL AREA INTERMEDIATE UNIT?
Salary: $15.00 per hour
Terms of Employment: Teacher interns will be partnered with a tenured teacher for the entire school year. Interns will follow Hill Top Academy’s academic calendar.
Work Schedule: 7.5 hours/day (including ½ lunch), following the Hill Top Academy's academic calendar
Job Goal: To student teach in an immersive experience, learning from the cooperating teacher and other staff, assisting in meeting the instructional and behavioral needs of the students, and to lead the planning and instruction of the classroom in designated times and content areas.
Performance Responsibilities:
1. Interns will begin their experience attending summer academy days which will promote collaboration with the mentor teacher prior to the start of the school year.
2. Follow the college’s academic guidelines for student teaching.
3. The intern’s role in the classroom is defined by the four domains of Danielson’s Framework for Teaching. With the help of the cooperating teacher, the student intern will:
4. Develop lesson plans that demonstrate the knowledge of content and students
5. Learn to create a learning environment emphasizing respect and achievement
6. Engage students in using multiple modalities
7. Demonstrate professionalism when working with students, families, and staff
8. Throughout the year-long placement, the student interns will have opportunities to:
9. Observe and participate in IEP, Evaluation and Re-evaluation meetings.
10. Observe speech and occupational therapy sessions, and group therapy sessions.
11. Observe and participate in consultations with behavior, instructional, and compliance coaches.
12. Co-plan and teach with the cooperating teacher.
13. Review student goals and progress.
14. Collect and enter daily behavior data.
15. Participate in weekly team meetings with classroom teams
16. Attend and participate in student related and program related specific meetings
17. Learn about and have opportunities to implement different educational technologies
18. Attend and participate in possible educational field trips
19.Provide individualized instruction
20. Assume teaching responsibilities for assigned classroom
21. Receive training in Safe Crisis Management
Qualifications:
1. Student Teacher Candidate in their final year of college in a dual-certificate program in Special Education and a regular education certificate
2. Good verbal skills
3.Good problem-solving and interpersonal skills
4.Ability to build rapport with students and classroom teacher
