We are seeking an experienced Data Governance Expert with deep hands-on expertise in Microsoft Purview and strong exposure to data and AI initiatives. The ideal candidate will have proven experience implementing enterprise scale data governance programs, including metadata management, lineage, classification, and stewardship operating models. Experience within the investment management or financial services domain is highly preferred. This role requires someone who can effectively collaborate with both technical and business stakeholders to drive governance outcomes across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Purview Administration & Technical Enablement:
Lead setup, configuration, and operations of Microsoft Purview (Data Map, Catalog, Scanning, Lineage, Classification, Glossary).
Implement metadata harvesting from diverse sources SQL, Oracle, Data Lake, S3, Lakehouse, BI tools, Fabric pipelines.
Develop API based automation for metadata ingestion, lineage enrichment, and stewardship workflows.
Maintain Purview policies, sensitivity labels, roles, permissions, and governance rules.
Data Governance Program Implementation:
Design and operationalize enterprise-wide governance frameworks: ownership models, stewardship processes, metadata standards, certification workflows, and RACI structures.
Drive governance adoption across domains, ensuring alignment to regulatory, compliance, and business reporting requirements.
Establish KPIs to track catalog coverage, lineage completeness, classification accuracy, and data quality improvements.
Support audits, controls, and compliance evidence creation using Purview lineage and metadata.
Metadata, Lineage & Data Quality Integration:
Build end to end lineage across ingestion, transformation, and consumption layers
Integrate metadata with DQ tools to surface profiling, quality rules, and issue insights directly within Purview models.
Work with engineering teams to embed metadata contracts and lineage
Business & Technical Stakeholder Engagement:
Engage with business owners, data stewards, portfolio managers, investment operations teams, and technology teams to drive data governance activities.
Facilitate workshops, governance forums, lineage walkthroughs, and metadata curation sessions.
Translate complex technical concepts into business-friendly narratives to support decision making.
Act as a bridge between analytics, AI teams, data engineering, and business product owners.
Required Qualifications
Technical Skills:
Strong, hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview (Data Map, Catalog, Scanning, Lineage, Classification, Glossary).
Background in data engineering, data architecture, or AI/ML data pipelines understands how data flows through modern platforms.
Proven experience implementing data governance programs from planning to operational execution.
Familiarity with Azure fabric, data lake houses, SQL platforms, BI ecosystems.
Knowledge of data modeling, metadata standards, lineage frameworks, and DQ concepts.
Domain Skills
Exposure to investment management, asset management, or financial services, with understanding of data domains like:
Portfolio/positions
Security master
Trades & transactions
Reference data
Risk & performance analytics
Ability to map governance requirements to regulatory expectations in the investment domain.
Soft Skills:
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement capability able to work with C suite, business leaders, stewards, and engineers.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to formalize processes and drive change.
Ability to manage cross functional programs and influence without authority.
Preferred Qualifications
10-15 years of data governance experience, preferably within a large enterprise.
Experience with complementary tools such as Solidatus, Collibra, Alation, Informatica, Purview.
Certifications: Azure, DAMA, DCAM, Data Governance, or related.
The pay range that the employer in good faith reasonably expects to pay for this position is $38.83/hour - $60.68/hour. Our benefits include medical, dental, vision and retirement benefits. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis.
