GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Special Programs Coordinator supports Perkins/Coaches & Mentors Program funded by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) through the strengthening Career and Education for the 21st Century Act of 2018. In cooperation with the Dean, the Coordinator hires and supervises staff working in the program. Duties include program implementation, ensuring compliance with grant requirements; assisting in the preparation of grant proposals; reports and managing grant budgets; evaluating programs; aligning and strengthening secondary and postsecondary career and technical education programs and linkages; communicating, coordinating, and collaborating with secondary and postsecondary administration, faculty, staff, and industry representatives; via participation on academic program advisory boards serving as a liaison between the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), the colleges. The Special Programs Coordinator will provide direct service and academic advising to CTE students targeting special populations.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Perkins V Grant Administration

  • Ensures grant compliance by working cooperatively with Grant Office and Institutional Research in both internal & external stakeholders in the development biennial Comprehensive Local Needs Assessment (CLNA) report required for Perkins Annual Application.
  • Plans writes and submits the annual application for Perkins Grant.
  • Serves as a liaison with DESE to facilitate program management and to ensure compliance with federal legislation and regulations.
  • Facilitates and leads Perkins local Advisory Board.
  • Assists registrar's office in the implementation of articulation agreements with Cape Cod Community College and Cape Cod Secondary schools.
  • Hires and supervises staff.

Perkins/Coaches and Mentors Program

  • Identifies and recruits 100 or more eligible special populations career and technical students into the program.
  • Serves as an academic advisor to program participants.
  • Coordinates and leads Coaches & Mentors orientation.
  • Monitors student progress through ongoing faculty and staff communication, use of EAB Navigate, progress reports and Mid-Term warning lists for all Coaches & Mentors participants.
  • Supervises professional and support staff.
  • Coordinates the preparation of materials and staff for DESE visits and program audits.
  • Keeps abreast of new developments in student support services and acquires instructional resources to improve services of students who are members of special populations.
  • Participates in the colleges Pathways Program with Enrollment Management to assist high school students in enrolling in the college.
  • Serves as a member on CTE academic program advisory boards.

Job Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in counseling, psychology, education, social work or closely related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Grant preparation and reporting experience.
  • Three (3) years' experience in academic advising and career experience.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Demonstrated experience working with college students from a diverse race, gender, age, religious, and identity backgrounds.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent technology and organizational skills.
  • Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working with multicultural students.
  • Bilingual.
  • Excellent problem-solving and interpersonal skills.

Additional Information:

COMPENSATION: Full-time, grant-funded MCCC Unit Position; Grade 4 Special Programs Coordinator with an anticipated annual salary range of $63,159 - $75,089. Actual salary will be consistent with the MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Includes participation in a comprehensive employee benefits program including option for membership in the Massachusetts State Employees' Retirement System. Appointment through June 30, 2026 (extended annually pending funding).
