Duties
- Working with minimal supervision, performing primarily aerothermal test engineering functions, but support may be in a variety of technical areas including:
- Aerothermal testing and analysis
- Thermal Protection System ablation
- Fluid-thermal-structural interaction (FTSI)
- Computational heat transfer
- Optical diagnostic techniques
- Statistical methods and statistically defensible analysis techniques
- Working with minimal supervision, performing primarily aerothermal test engineering functions, but support may be in a variety of technical areas including:
- Assisting in coordination and generation of requirements and analysis objectives, measures of performance, and success criteria which support the evaluation of hypersonic weapon systems.
- Advising/assisting the government and customer during the test planning process, including assessing test conditions and addressing test cell/test article interactions.
- Leading Technical, Safety, and Readiness Review Boards.
- Directing the execution of hypersonic ground tests.
- Performing in-depth analysis of the resulting test data in order to meet analysis objectives.
- Preparing quick-look reports and detailed technical reports as appropriate to record test planning, data processing and analysis, and conclusions/recommendations.
- Reviewing state-of-the-art test and analysis techniques in literature and applying them to specific project requirements and supporting analysis-technique development efforts to advance the state-of-the-art analysis capabilities at AEDC
- Learning and effectively using a variety of government and in-house simulation codes and analysis tools.
- Working in fast-paced environment while being able to prioritize work to balance multiple projects and deadlines.
- Bachelor's degree
- Bachelor's degree in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering. (Seeking undergrads or junior engineers looking to acquire graduate level degrees.)
- An advanced degree and background or coursework related to the technical areas described above is a plus.
- Proficiency with Scientific Python (primary code) and Matlab (secondary).
- The ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with senior staff and peers.
- Communications must be clear, concise, and at the appropriate level.
- Must be timely, efficient, and produce work of acceptable quality.
- Completed work must meet project/program objectives.
- Must exhibit and foster cooperation and teamwork, enhance customer relations, and actively promote rapport with customers.
- Must utilize resources effectively to accomplish mission.
- Focused adherence to safety and security requirements in an office-based environment is required.
- Must be able to obtain or have an active and transferrable DoD security clearance with current investigation at the required level. Must be able to maintain the required clearance.
