What are the responsibilities and job description for the Hotel Chief Engineer position at Candlewood Suites?
About this opportunity:
Candlewood Suites Panama City Beach is in the middle of an exciting brand conversion to IHG and we need a Chief Engineer who is ready to hit the ground running. You will be the first and only engineering leader on property — responsible for the physical condition of the entire building, the safety of every guest, and the mechanical integrity of every system. This is not a maintenance role. This is a leadership role with real accountability and real impact.
We need someone who enforces standards, not someone who lets things slide. If something is broken, it gets fixed — the right way, the first time..
What you'll own
- Full ownership of all property systems — HVAC, plumbing, electrical, pool, elevators, and life safety equipment
- Conduct daily property walks and room inspections — identify issues before guests do
- Execute and document a preventive maintenance program that meets IHG brand standards
- Respond to all guest room and common area maintenance requests quickly and professionally
- Manage relationships with outside vendors and contractors — get quotes, oversee work, hold them accountable
- Maintain all required logs, permits, and compliance documentation for health, safety, and fire codes
- Coordinate closely with housekeeping and front desk to minimize guest disruption during repairs
- Monitor and control energy usage across the property to manage utility costs
You will be the person responsible for keeping this property safe, legal, and inspection-ready at all times. No exceptions.
What we're looking for
- Minimum 2–3 years of hotel engineering or building maintenance experience — hospitality strongly preferred
- Familiarity with IHG, Candlewood Suites, or extended-stay brand standards is a strong plus
- Someone who is proactive — you find problems before guests report them
- Strong communicator who can work across departments and keep leadership informed
- Comfortable being on-call for urgent property issues — hotels don't close at 5pm
- EPA 608 certification or equivalent is a plus
- High standards, strong follow-through, zero tolerance for deferred problems
Why join us
- Be the engineering leader of a freshly converting IHG brand property — your systems, your standards
- Direct line to property leadership — your voice matters here
- Stable, full-time position with a team that is serious about doing things right
- Part of IHG Hotels & Resorts — one of the largest hospitality companies in the world
