What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Graduate Coach position at Campbell University?
The Assistant Graduate for Women’s Swimming will assist with administrative, logistical, training, travel, and overall program management responsibilities for the Campbell University Women’s Swim Team. This role will also support training, recruiting, coaching operations, and student-athlete development initiatives.
This is a graduate assistant opportunity designed for individuals seeking to contribute to a competitive NCAA Division I swimming program while pursuing graduate studies at Campbell University.
Expectations include attending practices, traveling with the team for competitions, maintaining office hours, and assisting in daily operations. The selected individual must be an effective communicator with strong organizational skills, a willingness to expand their understanding of the sport, and the ability to operate independently in the absence of the Head Coach.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Include, but are not limited to:
Program Operations & Team Support
• Assist with organization, supervision, and execution of daily practices and competitions
• Support meet setup, breakdown, and overall competition management
• Assist with facility scheduling and pool-related operational logistics
• Help coordinate facility setup for home meets
• Manage team equipment usage, organization, and disbursement
• Operate stopwatches and other sport-specific training equipment as directed by the Head Coach
• Assist with scheduling, organization, and execution of team meetings
• Help coordinate program communication and team-related logistics under the direction of the Head Coach
Recruiting & Administrative Support
• Assist with recruiting visit planning and documentation for submission to the Office of Compliance
• Coordinate recruiting travel arrangements and visit itineraries
• Assist with team travel planning, lodging coordination, and transportation logistics
• Reconcile expenses and submit documentation to the Business Office
• Organize team gear, supplies, and administrative materials
• Support scheduling and logistical preparation for team functions
• Regularly work under the direction of the Head Coach regarding recruiting engagement, communication, and correspondence with prospective student-athletes and families
Coaching & Student-Athlete Development
• Attend and participate in departmental, staff, team, and individual meetings with student-athletes
• Assist the Head Coach with daily training preparation and meet-related nutrition/meal planning
• Help organize and facilitate team meetings under the direction of the Head Coach
• Provide support during practices, competitions, and team travel
• Assist with recruiting efforts and prospective student-athlete engagement
• Promote student-athlete development and support team culture initiatives
• Assist in maintaining a safe, organized, and competitive training environment
• Assist with the organization and operation of camps and clinics in administrative, instructional, or other capacities as deemed necessary by the Head Coach
Work Expectations
• Availability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and travel as required
• Ability to stand and walk on the pool deck for extended periods during practices and competitions
• Ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced collegiate athletics environment

• Willingness to practice and maintain a healthy work-life balance while managing the demands of graduate school and collegiate athletics
• Ability to professionally represent the Campbell University Women’s Swim Team through interactions with student-athletes, staff, faculty, alumni, and campus partners
• Strong communication skills when working with coaches, parents, recruits, and student-athletes both nationally and internationally, reflecting the global nature of competitive swimming
• Open-mindedness and appreciation for diverse cultures and backgrounds to effectively support a broad student-athlete population
• CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain certification)
• Computer literacy, including proficiency with spreadsheets and administrative software
• Swimming knowledge and prior experience in athletics, coaching, or competitive sport preferred
• Bachelor’s degree required
• Minimum 3.0 GPA for admission into the Master of Science in Applied Leadership program
