General Summary Maintains the daily operation of the pool including the supervision of swimmers, part-time staff as well as opening & closing the pool. Monitors swim lessons and lifeguard staff. Performs first aid and CPR when necessary.

Receive general supervision from Aquatics Manager. Completes incident reports, maintenance, water tests, as required. Rotating 40 hours, including early mornings, and weekends with another Senior Lifeguard.

Availability to evenings and weekends. Essential Duties and Responsibilites The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

Fosters a positive and courteous atmosphere while enforcing policies, rules, and regulations governing the conduct of aquatic facility users. Warns users of existing safety hazards. Effects rescues and appropriate follow-up procedures.

Greets public, answers questions, and records incident reports, maintenance, and water tests as required. Monitors swim lessons and lifeguard staff during open hours. Instructs a variety of aquatic classes to include swim lessons and water aerobics.

Maintains a clean and healthy environment by laundering towels, staff uniforms, and rental suits. Performs first aid and CPR for patrons in accordance with department guidelines and policies. Attends and participates in staff meetings and related activities.

Attends workshops, conferences, and classes to increase knowledge. Performs related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications Required Education and Experience: High school diploma (or GED equivalent) Up to one (1) year of experience Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities Required Licenses or Certifications: Lifeguard/CPR certified Water Safety Instructor Bloodborne Pathogens Competencies for Successful Performance of Job Duties Knowledge of: English grammar, spelling, and punctuation Principles and practices of basic bookkeeping Recreational pool equipment and facility operations Principles and methods of training and instruction for water safety Principles and practices of working safely Skill in: Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships Performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature Performing basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, and ratios Communication, both oral and written Swimming Ability to: Meet schedules and deadlines of the work Understand and carry out oral and written directions Accurately organize and maintain paper documents and electronic files Maintain the confidentiality of information and professional boundaries Teach a variety of aquatic classes PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
