Job Summary
The Summer and Day Camp Manager is responsible for the daily operations, development, and supervision of the summer camp and day camp programs. This role involves organizing activities, managing staff ensuring camper safety, and serving as the primary point of contact for campers and their families. The summer season is 10 to 12 weeks in summer in which the role is comprehensive and requires availability for managing issues during camp through a team of dedicated leaders. During retreat season, the Summer and Day Camp Manager supports programs 2 days a week and is scheduled for weekend work 2-3 weekends a month while also ensuring summer camp planning and preparation continues.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement camp programs and activities
- Plan and implement the overnight and day camp program
- recruit, train, and supervise camp staff, including Team Leaders, Counselors, CIT's, Clinic Staff, and Lifeguards.
- Assist with recruitment of seasonal program staff, kitchen, and equestrian staff
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all campers and staff
- Supervise and support camp counselors in behavior management
- Work with Operations to ensure the Maintenance of camp facilities and equipment
- Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding camper progress and concerns
- Manage camp budgets and resources
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations. Including incident reporting and documentation
- Maintain accurate records and documentation
- Plan and coordinate field trips and special events
- Evaluate camp programs and implement improvements
- Support the planning and implementation of complementary programs
- Maintain an evaluation process for campers and collect relevant date to ensure data driven oversight of services provided
- Visit community events for staff and camper recruitment
- Continue with professional development opportunites to ensure camp maintains safe and relevant to the guests served
- Other duties as assigned - including support of other program areas as needed
Additional Duties if Residing on Premises:
- Available for crisis when on premises
- Additional shared rotating weekend On-Duty expectations
- Sign housing agreement
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Recreation Management, Education or related field or 2 years of experiences in camps
- Previous experience in camp management or related field
- Strong leadership and organization skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively
- Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
- Proficient with computer programs as needed
- Possess a valid United States driver's license
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- CPR First Aid trained
- Willing to maintian continuing education and updated on camp changes and safety
- Reliable, responsible, and dedicated to the mission of camp
- An active relationship with Jesus Christ
Work Environment:
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions
Pay: $35,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
Work Location: In person
