Director, Summer Camp

Camp Gray Rock is seeking a passionate and dedicated Camp Director to lead our summer camp program, an overnight camp for girls and boys ages 10-16 in Boone, North Carolina. The Camp Director will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of camp operations at an overnight camp in Boone, North Carolina. This role requires strong leadership skills, conflict resolution skills, the ability to educate and inspire both staff and students, and a commitment to fostering a safe and positive camp culture. Camp Director will have the support of the Board of Directors.

Employees must be able to relocate to Camp Gray Rock for the duration of summer camp. This is a partial camp season for 2026, dates needed are July 19-August 1 with required move in and orientation on July 17/18. This is seasonal work with opportunity for repeat rehire season to season.

Private lodging/quarters are provided. The camp employs certified kitchen staff providing three meals each day. Staff are paid weekly and have transition time without campers on Saturday afternoons/evenings through Sunday mornings.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all aspects of camp operation, ensuring safety, and a fun and engaging environment.
• Supervise camp staff, providing training, support, and performance evaluations.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of all campers by enforcing safety protocols and guidelines.
• Plan and coordinate daily activities with counselors, including recreational and team-building exercises.
• Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and community members regarding camp activities and camper progress.
• Manage administrative tasks such as budgeting, scheduling, and record keeping.
• Collaborate with local organizations to enhance the camp experience through field trips, partnerships and resources.
• Evaluate program effectiveness through feedback from campers and staff to continually improve the camp experience.

Requirements

• Current employment in education or Education major is preferred.
• Experience working with children in an educational or recreational setting
• Previous experience in education, teaching, or administration
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire a diverse group of children and teammates/staff
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Ability to work collaboratively with staff, campers, and parents to create a safe and positive environment.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in planning activities and managing schedules.
• A passion for education and youth development

Pay: From $1,000.00 per week
