Duration: 13 Weeks (Possible Extension)
Shift: Days (2:00 PM – 10:30 PM) | 40 Hours/Week
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Sterile Processing Technician (SPD) to join a dynamic healthcare team in Urbana, IL. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring all surgical instruments and medical equipment are properly decontaminated, sterilized, and prepared in compliance with AAMI standards and infection control guidelines. This is a great opportunity to work in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment supporting critical surgical operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform decontamination, cleaning, assembly, packaging, and sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment
- Inspect instruments for cleanliness, defects, and proper functionality
- Operate mechanical washers, sterilizers, and inspection equipment including electrosurgical testing tools
- Ensure compliance with infection control policies and manufacturer instructions (IFU)
- Accurately document processing activities in the SPD system
- Prepare and distribute case carts for same-day and next-day surgical procedures
- Restock specialty carts and Omnicells as needed
- Support Operating Room (OR) and clinical units with timely supply distribution
- Respond to urgent (STAT/ASAP) requests efficiently
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- CRCST or CSPDT Certification (Required)
- Minimum 5 years of SPD experience
- At least 2 years of travel experience
- Experience in Level 1 Trauma Center or handling 50 surgical cases per day
- Strong experience in:
- Decontamination, sterilization, and instrument trays
- Surgical specialties: Orthopedics, Robotics, Laparoscopic, Neurosurgery, ENT, CV, Trauma, Plastics, Urology, Gynecology
- Familiarity with OR workflows and instrumentation
- Basic computer skills and medical terminology knowledge
