Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Certified Ophthalmic Technician to join our ophthalmology practice. The ideal candidate will provide exceptional patient care by assisting ophthalmologists in clinical procedures, performing diagnostic tests, and ensuring the smooth operation of the clinic. Duties
- Conduct comprehensive patient intake, including recording medical history and current ocular concerns
- Measure vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen saturation to support clinical assessments
- Perform diagnostic tests including visual acuity assessments, intraocular pressure measurements, and slit-lamp examinations
- Assist ophthalmologists during examinations and minor procedures with proper aseptic techniques
- Manage medical records accurately within electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Epic
- Educate patients on eye health, treatment options, and post-procedure care to promote understanding and compliance
- Maintain a sterile environment by adhering to HIPAA regulations and aseptic protocols
- Support front desk operations by scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information, and handling patient inquiries
- Assist with billing, coding, and documentation related to ophthalmic procedures in compliance with medical standards
- Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient clinic flow and high-quality patient service
Key Requirements
- No local candidates accepted
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM
- High school diploma or GED required
- JCAHPO certification required:
- COA (Certified Ophthalmic Assistant), or
- COT (Certified Ophthalmic Technician), or
- COMT (Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist)
- Minimum 1 year of ophthalmology experience
- Preferred: Vocational or technical training from an accredited ophthalmic program
Main Responsibilities
- Escort patients to and from exam rooms
- Obtain patient histories, including eye symptoms, allergies, and medications
- Perform ophthalmic testing, including:
- Visual acuity
- Intraocular pressure measurements (Tonopen and applanation)
- Visual fields
- A/B scans
- Autorefraction
- OCT
- Fundus photography
- Lensometry
- Corneal topography
- Refractions
- Administer eye drops for examinations
- Manage patient flow and provider schedules
- Maintain patient records and documentation
- Stock exam rooms and supply areas
- Clean, maintain, and coordinate repair of equipment
- Participate in training and continuing education
Pay: $1,500.00 - $1,800.00 per week
Experience:
- Ophthalmic Technician: 2 years (Required)
License/Certification:
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (Required)
- BLS Certification (Required)
