The Medical Assistant operates as part of the care team under general supervision. They perform a variety of functions such as preparing patient rooms, answering patient inquiries, stocking exam rooms, and providing pre- and post-surgical information to the patient and their family.

The Medical Assistant operates as part of the care team under general supervision. They perform a variety of functions such as preparing patient rooms, answering patient inquiries, stocking exam rooms, and providing pre- and post-surgical information to the patient and their family.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Clean and wipe up any fluids as soon as possible using Universal Precautions at all time
- Clean and disinfect contaminated equipment and work surfaces after every patient
- Wipe down and sanitize the patient beds after each patient exposure
- Check sharps containers daily to ensure they are not full. disposes of clinical waste appropriately
- Assist physician and physician assistant in exam rooms
- Escort patients to exam rooms, and interviews patients to obtain medical background
- Instruct patients as directed by the physician or physician assistant.
- Ensure all related reports, labs, consults, radiology, and information are available in the patient's EHR medical records prior to their appointment
- Keep exam rooms stocked with medical supplies, maintain instruments, and prepare sterilization as needed.
- Review telephone messages and provide feedback and answers to patients
- patient/physician/pharmacy calls in a timely manner
- Prioritize and handle messages from patients and front office staff for physicians and physician assistants promptly
- Retrieve and return voicemail, email, and faxes
- Manage patient appointments
- Remove casts, staples, splints, sutures and braces
- Obtain prior authorization for MRI, injections and other studies, as well as medications
- Complete SDI, FMLA, and other insurances forms
- Attend monthly meetings and training as needed
- Prepare encounter forms two days before the clinic
- Enter the prescription order in EPIC for physician review
- Ability to travel between 2 locations, San Rafael & San Francisco on an asneeded basis
- Assist with front desk duties as necessary
- Log all VMs when covering another team member
- Log all injectables from medicine cabinet
- Check for expired medication and supplies
- Ability to execute other duties as assigned by management and providers
- High school diploma or GED required
- 1 years as a medical assistant or related experience
- Experience with scheduling appointments
- Proficient in computers using MS Office applications and with EHR (preferably Epic)
- Strong knowledge of clinical/medical practice operations, procedures, terminology, and administration
- Ability to collaborate across departments and build effective relationships with internal and external clients to achieve
- Strong verbal/written communication and listening skills; including excellent interpersonal skills and telephone communication.
- Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on allocated assignments.
- Ability to work overtime as needed
- Handles confidential information and/or issues using discretion and judgment.
