Job Description And Duties The California Department of Social Services (CDSS), Community Care Licensing Division (CCLD), Division Administrative Support Bureau, within the Central Operations Branch is currently accepting applications for a Staff Services Manager I to lead our Facility and Special Projects Section. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dedicated team that provides vital facility support to CCLD offices statewide. We are looking for a leader with strong customer service skills who can build positive relationships, respond effectively to stakeholder needs, and ensure high-quality support services. The SSM I is responsible for planning, organizing and supervising the activities of the Facility and Special Projects Section that acts as the liaison between CCLD programs and branches and the CDSS Business Services Bureau. The SSM I provides leadership to a team of analysts, ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of essential administrative services related to office space planning and modification, private lease oversight, state-leased vehicle fleet and Department of Motor Vehicles program coordination, records retention, and various special projects.

Your SOQ must address the following:

  • Describe your experience leading, planning, organizing, and supervising the work of a professional team. Include how you have established priorities, assigned work, monitored progress, and ensured accountability for results.
  • Describe a complex special project you led from inception to completion. Include the problem or need, your approach to planning and implementation, how you engaged your team and stakeholders, and the outcome.
  • This position serves as a liaison between multiple divisions and external entities. Describe a situation where you successfully facilitated communication and collaboration across programs, branches, and/or outside agencies to achieve a shared objective.
  • Explain a time when you implemented a new process, policy, or operational improvement in an administrative or facility support environment. How did you gain buy-in, manage resistance, and measure the success of the change?

Training and Development assignments may be considered based on the availability of eligible candidates and are subject to approval by the Hiring Authority prior to appointment. Training and Development assignments are temporary in nature and shall not exceed twenty-four (24) months.

Candidates who reside outside of the State of California may be admitted to the job interview, but they must provide proof of residence in California prior to being eligible for appointment.
