Job Description And Duties

Can you type at a speed of 45 words per minute? If you answered yes to all the questions, this Senior Legal Typist (SLT) position with the Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC) may be for you.
DWC within the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) is responsible for the administration of workers' compensation claims and provides services to assist in resolving disputes with claims for workers' compensation benefits. DWC is seeking an individual who is interested in performing meaningful secretarial work and collaborating closely with the Legal Support Supervisor I (LSSI) to manage case assignments. The SLT prepares and serves orders, decisions and correspondence and provides secretarial and clerical support to the Workers' Compensation Judge (WCJ) assigned. Additionally, the SLT works within the Electronic Adjudication Management System (EAMS) to manage their tasks, process incoming and outgoing documents and manage the judge's calendar.
Effective July 1, 2025, specific Bargaining Units and associated Excluded State employees are subject to a salary reduction between 2% - 4.62% in exchange for hours in the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) per month. Working Conditions
This position is located at:
464 W. Fourth Street, Suite 239
San Bernardino, CA 92401
The San Bernardino office is easily accessible from the 215, 210 and 10 freeways and close to the historic Molly's Cafe, Inland Center Mall, Starbucks, Panda Express and In and Out restaurants. Telework is available two days per week and parking is $15.00 per month. The SLT works 40 hours per week in a smoke-free office under LED lighting, controlled temperature, quiet to moderate noise levels; equipped with cubicles, computer, and other office equipment. The SLT is required to attend meetings in designated conference rooms and be willing to travel for off-site trainings, work in a team environment and independently.
The SLT works under the supervision of the Legal Support Supervisor I and the Presiding Workers’ Compensation Judge.
Special Requirements
Proficient with Microsoft Office products including, Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point. Typing Certificate of 45 words per minute, ability to read and write English at a level required for successful job performance, establish and maintain effective working relationships, communicate effectively, follow directions, analyze situations and take effective action using good judgment in decision making, manage time and resources effectively and be responsive to management needs.
