Underwriting Manager - Mortgage Lending
Hybrid - Columbus, OH (4 days onsite)
Calculated Hire is seeking an Underwriting Manager for our Financial Services client to support mortgage lending. This role will lead underwriting operations, support mortgage loan decisioning, and partner closely with Mortgage Loan Officers, Processing teams, and Business Banking partners to ensure efficient loan execution and quality control.
In this role, you will:
- Manage and support day-to-day mortgage underwriting operations within a high-volume lending environment
- Review and underwrite a variety of residential mortgage loan products
- Exercise lending authority and approve loans within established limits and guidelines
- Partner closely with Mortgage Loan Officers, Processors, and Business Banking teams throughout the loan lifecycle
- Ensure underwriting decisions align with investor, regulatory, and internal credit policy requirements
- Support pipeline management and prioritize loans effectively during peak production periods
- Review borrower financials, income, assets, collateral, and credit documentation to determine loan eligibility
- Utilize Encompass for underwriting workflows, pipeline management, and loan documentation review
- Provide guidance and support to underwriting and processing staff as needed
- Identify and escalate risk concerns, documentation gaps, or exception requests
- Help drive efficient turn times while maintaining strong credit quality and customer service standards
Desired Qualifications:
- 5 years of mortgage underwriting experience, including leadership or management responsibilities
- Experience working within Encompass
- Prior lending authority experience required
- Experience underwriting multiple residential mortgage loan products
- Strong understanding of mortgage lending guidelines, credit risk, and regulatory requirements
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume production environment
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across underwriting, processing, and sales teams
- Detail-oriented with strong decision-making and organizational skills
- Ability to balance quality, compliance, and turnaround expectations simultaneously
Salary : $115,000 - $120,000
