Overview
We are seeking an Energy Efficiency Specialist to conduct on-site residential energy assessments, educate customers on energy usage, and promote cost-effective energy conservation measures. This role combines technical fieldwork, customer consultation, and program promotion to support energy efficiency goals and improve the overall customer experience.
This position requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to translate technical information into customer-friendly language, and the ability to manage multiple priorities with limited supervision. The role also serves as a representative of the organization at community events and supports storm restoration efforts as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct on-site residential energy assessments, collecting and analyzing technical data related to HVAC systems, ductwork, insulation, windows, roofing, and appliances
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and evaluate system performance
- Provide customers with consultations on energy usage and recommend cost-effective improvements
- Promote and explain Energy Efficiency programs aligned with organizational and regulatory goals
- Meet program performance and participation targets
- Inspect Energy Management systems for reliability and compliance with applicable standards
- Serve as a technical liaison between customers, contractors, vendors, and internal teams
- Coordinate follow-through on customer issues, including troubleshooting, vendor coordination, and resolution of concerns
- Investigate and support resolution of damage claims with contractors or customers
- Participate in community outreach, trade shows, and homeowner association presentations
- Identify opportunities for additional company programs and services that benefit customers
- Conduct training sessions for internal teams including call center and field personnel
- Build and maintain relationships with trade ally organizations and industry groups
- Support storm restoration and special projects as assigned
Basic Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of 3 years of related work experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 3–5 years of related experience
- Energy Auditor Certification
- Customer service experience
- Bi-lingual in Spanish
- Experience with consultative sales
- Strong analytical, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills
- Experience with conflict resolution
- Strong written and presentation skills
- Working knowledge of energy efficiency practices
- Familiarity with utility regulatory environments
- Knowledge of Energy customer information systems (CSS)
Working Conditions:
- Field-based role requiring travel to customer homes and various field locations
- Work includes indoor and outdoor environments, attics, crawl spaces, and other confined areas
- May require driving to multiple appointments across regions
- Participation in storm restoration activities and special assignments
- Must be able to adjust work schedule to meet customer and business needs
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to climb, bend, and lift a minimum of 25 lbs
- Ability to work in confined spaces and elevated temperature conditions
- Must pass respirator clearance for work in attics and crawl spaces
- Valid driver’s license required
