POSITION PURPOSE
Base Pay $17.00 - 19 gratuity and tip pool
As a Seasonal Culinary Gardener, you will have the opportunity to learn all aspects of organic growing practices of vegetables, herbs, and fruit trees. You will also learn about the 100 different varietals of edible and medicinal plants/fruit we harvest for our kitchen.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
You will be supervised by the Culinary Garden Manager and will be expected to perform a variety of tasks, such as:
- Create and maintain a welcoming, energetic, friendly and caring atmosphere always for all guests, co-workers and supervisors
- Greenhouse production includes but not limited to; watering, sowing, material handling, and record keeping
- Hauling kitchen scraps from the kitchen to the compost area, handling composted materials
- Harvest and washing of a variety of fruits, vegetables, and garnish crops located around the property
- Property Maintenance by weeding, tree/shrub removals, maintaining irrigation, brush cutting, weed cutting, digging and other responsibilities as needed
- Planting a variety of vegetables, herbs, and trees
- Moving materials using a wheelbarrow or golf cart around properties.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
- Basic knowledge of organic garden practices a plus
- Must be able to follow instructions
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team
- Comfortable using long handled tools, including but not limited to shovels, hoes, and rakes
- Comfortable using short handled tools and safely using a harvest knife
- Availability: Ability to work a flexible schedule including early shifts that begin at 5am and weekends, weekdays, evenings and some holidays; open availability preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT
(i.e., necessary travel, unusual work hours, unusual environmental conditions, etc.)
Analysis of Physical Demands (Walking, lifting, equipment, operation, etc.)
- The ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions
- The ability to complete repetitive garden task such as bending, stooping, kneeling, and standing for long periods at a time
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds unassisted and carry it a minimum of 10 feet
- Must be comfortable working with the nature including bugs and animals.
