Position Summary
The School Psychology Specialist/Psychological Examiner works to support the success of students academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally. The School Psychology Specialist/Psychological Examiner works to support the success of students academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally. This position maintains a collaborative relationship with school personnel, students, and parents by identifying and assessing the learning, development, behavioral and emotional characteristics, and needs of students, as well as, the environmental factors that affect students' learning and behavior/emotions.
Essential Tasks And Responsibilities
- Possess knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulation, and policies regarding students' special education eligibility and programming
- Selects and administers age appropriate assessment methods and materials in order to determine the needs of the student
- Interpret assessment results and compile comprehensive psychological assessment reports that address the reason for referral and include appropriate recommendations
- Effectively communicate and discuss individual performance/evaluation results with school personnel, students, and parents
- Participate in eligibility committee meetings and contributes to the development of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
- Participate in other pertinent meetings at various schools assigned, as needed
- Serve as a resource to teachers and staff regarding psychological services and the academic/psychological/behavioral needs of students
- Attend professional growth activities, maintain current knowledge of trends, requirements, and special education legal and procedural developments
- Attend workshops, seminars, or classes, as appropriate
- Apply and use knowledge gained to promote progress in the special education area
- Provide in-service training and workshops for teachers and staff regarding students with disabilities and proper procedures for the identification and referral of students
- Ensure compliance of testing regulations that apply to school based psychological testing services
- Conduct behavioral classroom/school observations
- Assist in or conduct Functional Behavior Assessments and assist in or design of behavior intervention plans
- Work with parents, teachers and administrators to develop strategies to address learning and behavior difficulties
- Prepare timely reports to maintain timelines for due process paperwork completion and conferences
- Provide individual and/or group counseling
- Keep abreast of developments and research in the field of school psychology and shares with colleagues
- Adhere to all policies of the District and the Arkansas Code of Ethics for Arkansas Educators
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by the building administrator and other central office administrators, as designated by the Superintendent

- Ability to pay attention to the minute details of a project or task
- Master's Degree required
- Must hold a valid teaching certificate and necessary credentials for Arkansas State approved School Psychology Specialist or valid license from the Arkansas Board of Examiners in Psychology as a Psychological Examiner
- Experience in conducting and interpreting evaluations and behavior modification development and producing written evaluation reports required
- Successful completion of all background checks
