The Business Taxes Administrator I will be responsible for:
Planning, organizing, directing, monitoring, and reviewing the workload associated with the administration of the various tax programs.
Directing team members to conduct investigations, analyses, and evaluations of taxpayer-provided documents, books, and records, and financial documents.
Integrating and applying practices, policies and procedures across both compliance and audit functions.
Motivating, training, ad developing team members, and monitoring team members performance.
Being actively involved in creating and sustaining a great culture, developing setting goals, and working with peers and management to achieve them.
Performs other job-related duties, as required. Acts as the BTA II in their absence.
Under Government Code 14200, this position may be eligible for partial telework for eligible candidates residing in California. All telework/hybrid schedules require staff to report to the office a minimum number of days per week. Schedules are subject to change.
Currently, per the California Budget Act of 2025, all California Department of Tax and Fee Administration salaries are subject to the provisions of the State of California’s Personal Leave Program.

Position requires employee to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a background investigation.

Eligibility for Promotional Exams
In addition to meeting the Minimum Qualifications for the Business Taxes Administrator I, competition is limited to individuals who meet at least one of the following promotional examination criteria:
• Have a permanent civil service appointment with CDTFA, or
• Are current or former employees of the legislature for 2 or more years as defined in Government Code 18990, or
• Are current or former non-elected exempt employees of the executive branch for 2 or more consecutive years as defined in Govt. Code 18992, or
• Are persons retired from the United States military honorably discharged from active duty with a service disability or honorably discharged from active duty as defined in Government Code 18991. Applicants must provide a copy of discharge papers (DD 214) for verification purposes at the time of application.
Under certain circumstances other employees may be allowed to compete under provisions of Rules 234, 235 and 235.2. California Code of Regulations Rules 233, 234, 235.2 and 237 contain provisions regarding civil service status and eligibility for promotional examinations.
