We are seeking a highly skilled Class A or Class B Diesel Mechanic to join our fleet maintenance team in the waste and environmental services industry. The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of heavy-duty diesel trucks and waste industry equipment to ensure safety, reliability, and compliance. The ideal candidate is experienced, self-motivated, certified in key technical areas, and comfortable working in a high-volume shop environment. Candidates must be willing to take an ASE-based test during the interview process to verify mechanical competency. Key Responsibilities Maintenance & Repair Perform inspections, diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and major repairs on heavy-duty refuse trucks (front loaders, side loaders, rear loaders, roll-offs) and supporting equipment. Troubleshoot and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, air brake systems, suspension, after-treatment systems (DPF, DEF, SCR), and drivetrains. Utilize diagnostic tools and software including JPRO and Cummins Insite for troubleshooting and programming. Conduct HVAC repairs and diagnostics (A/C certified required). Complete PM services and identify potential failures before breakdowns occur. Compliance & Documentation Ensure repairs meet DOT, OSHA, and company safety standards. Document all work performed, parts used, and inspections completed in maintenance software. Conduct pre- and post-repair safety checks on assigned equipment. Operational Support Respond to road calls, breakdowns, and emergency repairs as needed. Participate in every 3rd weekend on-call rotation. Collaborate with operators, supervisors, and fleet management on equipment issues and repair planning. Required Qualifications Mandatory Nothing less than a Class A or Class B Diesel Mechanic skill level. 5 years of diesel mechanic experience, preferably in heavy-duty or refuse fleet equipment. Must bring own tools and a functional work cart (minimum requirement). Commercial Air Brake Certified. HVAC Certified (EPA 609). Clean MVR (Motor Vehicle Record). Experience using JPRO and Cummins Insite diagnostic software. Willing to take an ASE-based skills test during the interview. Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work in physically demanding conditions. Preferred ASE Medium/Heavy Truck T-Series Certifications. Class B CDL (or willingness to obtain). Experience in the waste industry (WM, GFL, Republic, municipal fleets, or similar).
