What You'll Do
- Operate the screed to control the width, depth, and smoothness of asphalt placement
- Work closely with the paver operator to maintain a consistent mat and proper material flow
- Adjust screed settings to meet project specifications and grade requirements
- Monitor asphalt quality and make adjustments as paving conditions change
- Assist with equipment inspections, setup, and basic maintenance
- Help keep the job site clean, organized, and safe
- Communicate effectively with crew members to ensure efficient paving operations
- Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Valid driver's license required
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Minimum 2 years of asphalt paving experience, with screed operation preferred
- Knowledge of asphalt paving techniques, grade control, and mat quality
- Ability to understand and follow directions
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing a quality finished product
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Reliable, punctual, and safety-focused
- Willingness to work overtime, nights, and weekends as required
- Commitment to safety and proper use of PPE
- Must pass pre-employment background check and drug screening
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to climb on and off paving equipment safely
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach throughout the workday
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, dust, and noise
- Ability to work on uneven terrain and active construction sites
- Maintain awareness of surrounding personnel, equipment, and traffic for safe operations
