Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (Wound Care / WOCN) to join our interdisciplinary care team in an acute care hospital setting. This role involves wound and ostomy consultations, wound VAC management, and patient/family education. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical assessment skills, wound care expertise, and experience with EPIC charting.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct wound and ostomy consultations for a diverse patient population (neonates, pediatrics, adults, geriatrics)
- Assess, stage, and manage pressure injuries and other wounds
- Provide wound treatments and dressings (alginates, hydrocolloids, hydrogels, silver products, enzymatic debridement)
- Manage and monitor negative pressure wound therapy (wound VAC)
- Educate patients and families on wound, ostomy, and continence care
- Collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, social workers, and other interdisciplinary team members
- Document all care in EPIC EMR accurately and timely
Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- ADN with relevant experience will be considered
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of wound care nursing experience (1.5 years may be considered)
- Acute care, teaching hospital, or community hospital experience preferred
Certifications & Licenses:
- Active RN license (California) – required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – required
- Wound Care Certification (WCC, WOCN, or equivalent) – required (must be certified, not just course completion)
Skills:
- Wound assessment, staging, tunneling, and undermining
- Pressure ulcer prevention and management
- Ostomy care (colostomy, ileostomy, urostomy) and patient teaching
- Use of wound VAC and WoundVision equipment
- Braden Scale and other ulcer risk assessment tools
- EPIC EMR proficiency (required)
Work Setting:
- Medical Setting: Hospital-based Wound Care/Enterostomal Therapy Services
- Patient Age Groups: Neonates, pediatrics, adults, geriatrics
- Daily Census: ~950 patients, 886 beds
- Interdisciplinary Support: Respiratory Therapy, Pharmacy, Social Services, Lift Teams, Unit Secretary
Physical Setting & Requirements:
- Clinical hospital environment
- Standing/walking for extended periods
- Ability to assist with patient repositioning and wound care procedures
Orientation & Compliance:
- Orientation provided prior to start
- Flu vaccine required (no exemptions)
