Position Summary
The Field Welder is responsible for performing welding and fabrication tasks at construction job sites. This role involves assembling, installing, and repairing metal structures and equipment according to project specifications and safety standards. The Field Welder works closely with construction crews to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to high-quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform welding tasks (e.g., MIG, TIG, Stick) on structural steel, piping, and other metal components in the field
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications
- Assemble and install metal structures, frameworks, and equipment on-site
- Inspect welds to ensure compliance with quality standards and project requirements
- Repair damaged metal structures or faulty welds as needed
- Set up, operate, and maintain welding tools and equipment
- Follow all OSHA and company safety guidelines and procedures
- Work in various environments, including elevated areas, confined spaces, or outdoor conditions
- Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and other trade professionals
- Ensure proper care and storage of tools and materials
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Proficiency in multiple welding techniques (MIG, TIG, Stick)
- Certified welder (AWS or equivalent certification preferred)
- Minimum of 2–5 years of field welding experience in construction or industrial settings
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and welding symbols
- Strong understanding of safety practices and regulations
- Excellent attention to detail and craftsmanship
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong problem-solving skills
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 50–75 pounds regularly
- Ability to stand, climb, bend, and kneel for extended periods
- Ability to work at heights or in confined spaces
