Position Summary
The Fabrication Shop Helper assists skilled fabricators, welders, and machinists in daily shop operations. This role involves preparing materials, maintaining equipment, ensuring a clean and safe work environment, and supporting production tasks to meet project deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist fabricators and welders with setup and preparation of materials
- Load, unload, and move raw materials and finished products
- Clean, grind, deburr, and prep metal or other materials for fabrication
- Operate basic shop tools and equipment (e.g., drills, saws, grinders)
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Follow safety procedures and wear required protective equipment (PPE)
- Help with measuring, cutting, and assembling parts under supervision
- Perform basic quality checks and report issues to supervisors
- Organize tools, materials, and supplies
- Assist with inventory tracking and restocking materials
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Previous experience in a fabrication shop or industrial setting is a plus but not required
- Ability to use basic hand tools and power tools
- Willingness to learn fabrication and welding processes
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, bend, walk, and lift up to 50 pounds regularly
- Ability to work in a shop environment, including heat, noise, and fumes
- Manual dexterity and steady hand-eye coordination
