Title: Executive Director (Part-Time)
Overview: The Executive Director will lead the Burke County Long-Term Recovery Group (LTRG), guiding disaster recovery and building long-term resilience. The executive director brings disaster response or EMS experience, proven nonprofit or government leadership, and strong ties to Western North Carolina with a heart for serving its communities. This role blends strategic foresight and hands-on execution to align programs, funding, and partnerships that deliver real results for families in need. It is a unique opportunity to direct recovery projects, strengthen organizational capacity, and foster collaboration with governments, nonprofits, faith communities, and funders - helping families rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.
Responsibilities:
Leadership and Strategy
- Provide visionary leadership to advance the mission and goals of the LTRG
- Develop and implement strategic plans in partnership with the Board
- Build collaboration among partner agencies, networks, government entities and funders
- Serve as primary liaison with regional, state, and national disaster recovery partners
Program Oversight
- Lead disaster case management, construction/rebuild, volunteer coordination, and unmet needs programming
- Ensure compliance with all grant requirements, donor expectations and reporting obligations
- Direct program monitoring, evaluation and continuous improvement to maximize impact and accountability
Financial Management
- Ensure sound fiscal practices, internal controls and compliance with federal, state and grantor requirements in conjunction with the fiscal agency
- Drive fundraising efforts, including grant acquisition, donor cultivation and strategic partnerships
Governance and Board Support
- Partner with Board of Directors in fulfilling its fiduciary, strategic and oversight roles
- Provide timely, accurate reporting to inform Board decision making
- Implement Board policies and procedures adhering to bylaws and nonprofit law
Operations and Administration
- Recruit, supervise and develop contractors and volunteers fostering a high performance, mission driven culture
- Maintain strong organizational policies, procedures and risk management practices
- Ensure responsible stewardship of facilities, equipment and technology systems
Communications and Advocacy
- Serve as the public face of the LTRG, building trust with survivors, funders, partners and the community
- Represent the organization with media, elected officials and key stakeholders
- Promote transparency and consistent communication with community members impaired by disaster
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (nonprofit management, public administration, social work, or similar)
- 3-5 years of senior leadership experience in nonprofit management, disaster recovery or related fields
- Strong knowledge of disaster recovery processes and systems, including FEMA, ARC, VOAD, federal, state and local resources
- Excellent communication, public speaking and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively
- Ability to work flexible hours as needed Familiarity with Burke County and Western North Carolina region is a plus
