- Plan and execute projects on time, on budget, and to client expectations, coordinating tasks across disciplines.
- Demonstrated ability to perform design analyses, calculations, and equipment/system selection and layout.
- Supporting or leading scope of work, fee, and workplan development, including staffing plans and schedule management.
- Successful delivery with awareness of budget performance and project profitability.
- Contribute to consistent QC standards, checklists, and project management best practices.
- Working familiarity with DDC and control systems and how controls interface with HVAC system design, sequences, and performance intent.
- Provide technical reviews of drawings, specifications, and calculations at key milestones and manage comment resolution.
- Lead the development and execution of mechanical and plumbing designs, applying continuous quality control/quality assurance throughout.
- Proven ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and coordinate with engineers across offices.
- Experience contributing to proposal development, scope narratives, and technical sections; comfortable supporting interviews/presentations when needed.
- Experience supporting construction phase services, including RFIs, submittal/shop drawing review, site observations, and coordination with contractors.
- Ability to build and maintain strong internal and external working relationships across public and private sector clients.
- Ability to support or perform as the Engineer of Record and/or act in responsible charge of defined deliverables, as appropriate to licensure and project structure.
- Interest and capability in mentoring junior staff through day-to-day guidance, QC coaching, and sharing practical design knowledge.
- 7 years of progressive experience in HVAC and plumbing system design for building projects, upgrades, and retrofits.
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering required from ABET accredited program
- P.E. preferred (or on track / eligible for licensure or reciprocity in Virginia).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Bluebeam
- Strong working knowledge of ASHRAE guidelines, energy codes, and other applicable building/mechanical/plumbing codes and standards.
- Excellent technical writing skills, including input to reports, technical memoranda, and basis of design documentation.
- Strong communication skills with experience representing the mechanical team in client meetings and coordination sessions.
