General Function

Provides leadership, coordination, and oversight of instructors, staff, facilities, and programming at the BCC Southport Center, with a focus on serving both students and the local arts community. Plans, develops, implements, and supervises a diverse range of classes and recruitment events that that support student learning, skill development, creative engagement, and entrepreneurship. Ensures the timely and accurate submission of all required documentation, including class schedules, materials and equipment requisitions, hiring forms, instructor contracts, marketing materials, timesheets, and audit records. The director oversees the operation of the Southport Center, fostering a welcoming environment for students, instructors, and community members. Works closely with internal and external partners to expand access, participation, and visibility of the Center. Performs other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Continuing Education, Economic and Workforce Development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with BCC faculty, staff, and administrators to recruit students, develop responsive programs, and ensure high-quality instruction at the Southport Center.
  • Promotes and communicates BCC’s strategic priorities and vision to students, community partners, and stakeholders.
  • Recruits, trains, supervises, and evaluates instructors, custodians, and administrative personnel to support effective center operations.
  • Assigns and coordinates staff responsibilities to foster collaboration, efficiency, and a strong team environment.
  • Provides in person supervision each semester with class visitation reports.
  • Oversees facility operations, including scheduling, opening/closing procedures, space planning, and maintenance requests.
  • Designs and implements classes and programs that align with workforce needs and enrich the local community.
  • Monitors revenue, expenses, purchasing, in accordance with the Center’s budget.
  • Reviews and approves course descriptions that align with the NCCCS combined course library.
  • Maintains records and documentation for compliance and administrative purposes.
  • Works closely with the marketing director to assist and support marketing and promotional strategies.
  • Works closely with the BCC Foundation to assist with events and fundraising activities.
  • Other duties as assigned by the VP of CEWD.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in arts administration, business or a relevant field.
  • 3 years’ experience in the arts and/or arts administration with understanding of, and appreciation for, multiple arts and crafts media.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
  • Self-motivated. Works independently with a proven work ethic.
  • Excellent written and oral communication.
  • Must have the ability to establish rapport with non-traditional student populations in order to foster retention and program growth.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.

Preferred Requirements

  • Teaching experience.
  • Experience using Colleague (Enterprise Resource Planning System).
  • Strong network within the local arts and cultural sector.
  • Ability to manage budgets and financial records.
