Planning and Scheduling Lead II
Location: Carlsbad, NM
Start Date: ASAP, no later than 12/1/2025
Contract Duration: 1 year (possible extension)
Schedule: 5 days on / 2 days off
Hours: 10 hours/day, 50 hours/week
Position Summary
The Planning and Scheduling Lead II is responsible for schedule development, control, forecasting, and progress measurement for upstream projects. This role ensures contractors and internal schedules are aligned with project goals, compliant with procedures, and effectively integrated across all functional elements. The PL is a key advisor to the Project Controls Lead and Project Leadership Team on schedule performance, risks, and mitigation.
Main Functions
- Serve as the project’s subject matter expert for schedule planning, progress tracking, and change management.
- Assess contractor and company schedules for logic, detail, communication flow, and alignment with the Project Plan, WBS, and Current Control Estimate.
- Establish schedule deliverable requirements and issue frequencies.
- Ensure early identification of schedule deviations and trends.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Schedule Leadership & Oversight
- Provide leadership and expertise across schedule planning, progress measurement, and change management.
- Steward the contractor’s project control organization regarding schedule development and progress tracking.
- Advise contractors on adequacy of tools, reports, and schedule deliverables.
- Develop and maintain Level 1 and Level 2 integrated project schedules.
- Review and endorse schedule baselines and forecasts prepared by contractors.
Issue Management & Mitigation
- Notify Project Controls Lead and Project Leadership of schedule risks; recommend corrective actions.
- Develop and review schedule corrective action and recovery plans.
- Confirm implementation of approved recovery measures.
Change Management
- Review project changes for schedule impact and incorporate approved changes.
- Monitor and report schedule implications of change events.
- Evaluate contractor schedule basis for change proposals.
- Endorse schedule-related aspects of change management.
Progress Measurement & Analysis
- Ensure contractor scheduling practices comply with Coordination Procedures.
- Lead contractors in developing Contract Control Schedules and Milestones.
- Ensure integration of subcontractor schedules and progress systems.
- Monitor performance against baseline schedules and support corrective action plans.
- Analyze progress trends and prepare schedule forecasts for decision-making.
- Participate in bid evaluations for schedule-related criteria.
- Ensure alignment with external requirements (permitting, regulatory, etc.).
- Provide guidance to schedule engineers (internal and contractor).
- Contribute to Lessons Learned for schedule-related topics.
Coordination & Communication
- Maintain close liaison with internal functional organizations.
- Promote capital efficiency in all stewarded projects.
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Management.
- Prior oil & gas experience preferred.
- Background in Project Controls, Project Services, Planning/Scheduling.
- Supervisory experience required.
- Willingness to relocate or work overseas as needed.
- Strong skills in influencing, consulting, mentoring, analytics, and computing.
- Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and respond quickly to urgent requests.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
