Brunel is recruiting Lease Operators to work in Carlsbad, NM for initially 1 year contract with our major oil and gas client.
The Lease Operator is responsible for monitoring, operating, and maintaining oil and gas production sites to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient daily operations. This role requires strong technical proficiency, field awareness, and adherence to regulatory and company operational standards.
Responsibilities:
• Perform daily surveillance of assigned wells, tank batteries, and production facilities to verify proper operation and identify abnormalities.
• Record and report accurate production readings, fluid levels, pressures, temperatures, and chemical usage.
• Conduct routine maintenance on pumps, compressors, separators, valves, and other production equipment.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, flow irregularities, and production variances.
• Ensure safe operation of all field activities in compliance with HSE guidelines, state regulations, and company policies.
• Manage fluid levels, storage tanks, and water disposal to avoid spills and maintain environmental compliance.
• Coordinate with maintenance, measurement, and engineering teams on repairs, optimization initiatives, and production improvements.
• Respond to alarms, failures, and emergency situations to minimize downtime or production loss.
• Track chemical inventory, adjust injection rates, and work with vendors as needed.
• Complete required documentation, including daily logs, maintenance reports, incident reports, and regulatory forms.
• Monitor and operate SCADA systems and communicate system alerts promptly.
• Support pipeline operations, meter calibrations, and sampling activities as required.
Qualifications:
• Previous experience as a Lease Operator, Production Operator, or Field Technician in the oil and gas industry.
• Strong understanding of production processes, artificial lift systems, and standard field equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret production data, schematics, and operating procedures.
• Mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform troubleshooting and minor repairs.
• Strong commitment to safety and environmental compliance.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between production sites.
• Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and operate in remote field environments.
Preferred Skills:
• Experience with SCADA systems, handheld devices, and digital field reporting tools.
• Knowledge of plunger lift, rod pump, and gas lift operations.
• Familiarity with regulatory guidelines such as OSHA, DOT, and state oil and gas rules.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to climb tanks, stairs, and ladders as required.
