Position Summary:
Join our team as a Building Automation Project Engineer and contribute to high-profile commercial, institutional, and healthcare projects across the region. You’ll integrate HVAC, lighting, energy management, and security systems into unified, high-performance building environments while collaborating closely with our field operations team and project stakeholders.
Compensation
- $90,000-$110,000 negotiable based on experience
Work Location & Travel Requirements
This is a home-based position. You are not required to report to an office. However, the role does require that you live within commuting distance of Birmingham, Alabama so you can visit job sites when necessary. The position will start as 100% remote, and over time will shift into a hybrid, field-based role, meaning you will continue working from home but will travel to job sites and client locations as project needs arise. No routine in-office presence is required.
What You’ll Do:
- Design and implement building automation systems based on project needs
- Integrate HVAC, lighting, security, and energy platforms
- Create system schematics, wiring diagrams, and control sequences
- Program controllers, sensors, and automation devices
- Support final commissioning and provide technical assistance to field teams and end users
- Stay current with industry standards, technologies, and best practices
- Ensure projects meet safety codes and regulatory requirements
Qualifications
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience with building automation systems (Niagara, Distech, ACAD preferred)
- Knowledge of protocols like BACnet, Modbus, or LonWorks
- Strong understanding of HVAC, lighting, energy, and security systems
- Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills
- Degree in engineering or relevant field, or equivalent experience
- Willingness to travel to client sites as needed
