What are the responsibilities and job description for the Staff Licensed Practical Nurse position at Brooklyn Hospital Center?
The Staff Licensed Practical Nurse functions under the supervision and guidance of the Nurse Manager, participates in the multi-disciplinary care and treatment to patients, and provides clinical support and technical assistance to the professional medical and other staff.
Functions within the scope of practice dictated by the authority of the New York State Office of Professions.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma, or GED equivalent
- Graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse program.
- Associate’s Degree – HIGHLY PREFERRED
- New Licensed Practical Nurse graduates welcome.
- At least two (2) years of experience - PREFFERED
- Prior experience in an outpatient medical office setting - PREFERRED
- Recent venipuncture and IV access experience – HIGHLY PREFERRED
- Current New York State Licensed Practical Nurse
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
- Must demonstrate consistent professional conduct and meticulous to detail.
- Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills with patients, staff and other healthcare professionals.
- Able to manage visit lists and prioritize patients
- Can take interpret vital signs
- Ability to perform venipuncture properly
- Ability to assess whether treatments have been authorized by insurance and escalating to appropriate parties when insurance authorization is required.
- Ability to escalate any financial related concerns from the patients
- Communicate pertinent information with interdisciplinary team (MD, fellows, medical students, RNs, front desk
