What are the responsibilities and job description for the Laboratory Technician position at Brooklyn Hospital Center?
The Clinical Laboratory Technician assists the Clinical Laboratory Technologist in the preparation of testing procedures, as well as the accessioning of all patient specimens, internal and external communications and transport duties relative to the flow of specimens, including histology and cytology area specimens. Performs processing and packaging of specimens for referral to other laboratories. Assists with Quality Control initiatives, and calls laboratory results when instructed.
Qualifications:
- Associates Degree in Medical Technology or equivalent
- Minimum of one(1) year in a laboratory or healthcare related field – PREFERRED
- Current New York State License Laboratory Technician
- Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) –PREFFERED
- Possess verbal and spatial ability, form perception, finger and manual dexterity and clerical ability
- Must possess data entry experience
- Knowledge of laboratory information system preferred
- Able to read, write, and speak English
