Duties
- Greet patients warmly, verify their identity, and facilitate smooth check-in and check-out processes using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Meditech, or eClinicalWorks.
- Schedule appointments efficiently, manage multi-line phone systems with professionalism, and respond promptly to patient inquiries via phone or in person.
- Verify insurance coverage, perform insurance eligibility checks, and process medical billing using knowledge of health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid.
- Review and update medical records accurately within EHR systems like Athenahealth or Dentrix, ensuring compliance with clinical confidentiality policies.
- Assist with insurance verifications.
- Manage incoming faxes, emails, and correspondence related to patient care while maintaining organized filing systems for medical records.
- Support clinical staff by performing intake procedures, updating patient information, and coordinating appointment schedules to optimize clinic flow.
Experience
- Prior experience working in a medical office setting or dental clinic environment is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, or Eaglesoft is essential.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, CPT coding, ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), and health insurance processes including Medicare is required.
- Bilingual skills are a plus to effectively serve diverse patient populations.
- Proven ability to handle clerical tasks such as filing, data entry (including 10-key typing), and managing multi-line phone systems with excellent phone etiquette.
- Excellent customer service skills combined with office management experience ensure a welcoming environment for patients while supporting efficient clinic operations.
- Familiarity with dental terminology and dental office software like Dentrix or Eaglesoft is advantageous for dental clinics.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and clinical confidentiality policies ensures compliance in all aspects of patient information management.
