Roastery Apprentice

Overview

Broad Porch Coffee is looking for a Roastery Apprentice who wants to build a career in coffee. This is a hands-on role for someone who is curious about how great coffee is sourced, roasted, evaluated, and delivered to our cafés and customers.

You’ll work closely with our roasting team to learn the full production process. A big part of the job is tasting coffee: preparing cuppings, developing your palate, recording what you taste, and helping us make sure every coffee meets our standards. Basic coffee knowledge is required. Roasting experience is a plus, not not necessary.

What you’ll do

• Assist with roasting, production planning, and daily roastery operations.
• Prepare for and participate in regular coffee cuppings.
• Help evaluate roast quality and consistency through tasting, production records, and quality checks.
• Learn how roast decisions affect flavor and how to identify problems before coffee leaves the roastery.
• Maintain accurate roast, inventory, and quality assurance records.
• Help keep the roastery organized, clean, and safe.
• Learn to coordinate production, communicate priorities, and support other team members.

A path toward Head Roaster

We want this person to grow into a leadership role. As your skills develop, you’ll take on more responsibility for evaluating coffee, making roast decisions, maintaining quality standards, planning production, and leading the roastery team. Our goal is to build a clear path toward becoming a Head Roaster based on demonstrated skill, consistency, judgment, and leadership.

Who you are

You care deeply about coffee and want to understand it beyond the finished cup. You’re observant, dependable, comfortable with physical work, and willing to taste, ask questions, and keep learning. Roasting experience is welcome, but curiosity, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality matter most.

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30.0 – 40.0 per week
