Position Overview
We are seeking a Controls Sales Engineer to drive growth in commercial Building Automation Systems (BAS) and HVAC controls projects. This role combines technical expertise, consultative sales, and project coordination to help clients improve building performance, energy efficiency, occupant comfort, and operational reliability.
The ideal candidate has experience selling BAS, HVAC controls, or mechanical service solutions in commercial environments and can effectively communicate both technical and financial value to facility owners, contractors, and engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and develop new business opportunities with commercial building owners, facility managers, contractors, and consulting engineers.
- Build and maintain client relationships by understanding customer operational challenges and recommending tailored automation and HVAC control solutions.
- Prepare and present technical proposals, including scope, bill of materials, pricing, and project value analysis.
- Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to ensure accurate estimating, solution design, and successful project execution.
- Lead the sales cycle from prospecting and qualification through proposal development, contract negotiation, and project handoff.
- Conduct site visits and project reviews to assess system requirements and validate project scope.
- Promote energy efficiency initiatives by leveraging available utility incentive and rebate programs where applicable.
- Track sales activity and maintain forecasts to support revenue and margin objectives.
- Provide ongoing customer support during project execution and resolve scope changes or client concerns as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a related field preferred.
- 5 years of experience in BAS sales, HVAC controls sales, automation sales, or related technical sales.
- Strong understanding of commercial HVAC systems, control sequences, and building automation technologies.
- Demonstrated ability to develop client relationships, close sales opportunities, and negotiate contracts.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience coordinating with estimating, engineering, and project management teams.
- Ability to travel within the assigned region as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with leading BAS platforms such as Tridium, Johnson Controls, Siemens, Honeywell, Schneider Electric, or Delta Controls.
- Knowledge of energy management, utility rebate programs, and sustainability initiatives.
- Professional credentials such as CEM, LEED AP, PE, or MBA are a plus.
