Job Description
SRE Resource Manager
A Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) is responsible for maintaining the reliability, performance, and scalability of a company's systems and infrastructure. This role combines engineering and operational skills to ensure that services run smoothly, and issues are resolved promptly. Responsibilities include system monitoring, incident management, automation, performance optimization, capacity planning, and collaboration with development teams
As the Manager of Site Reliability Engineering, you'll take a leadership role in defining and managing the reliability and availability of Brigham Young University (BYU) application services and will be responsible for ensuring the highest levels of customer satisfaction. We are looking for an experienced and creative individual with a passion for technology and a deep understanding of software engineering, cloud infrastructure, and system reliability. You must have strong problem-solving skills, be able to work in a fast-paced environment, and have an eye for detail. What you will be doing in this position:
Management of the resource pool
Lead and direct a large pool of highly technical employee resources
Manage full-time, part-time, and student employees
Support development of strategic direction for the team as a resource pool providing services throughout the University
Attract, recruit, hire, and retain quality candidates who bring a strong work ethic and have excellent skills to get needed work done
Using exceptional leadership and management skills, ensure team members are highly successful in accomplishing assigned work
Encourage and facilitate employee performance, development, training, and advancement
Ensure the team is an equitable and inclusive workplace where all employees feel valued, supported, and safe
Ensure quality and excellence in executing the processes used within the team
Lead definition of best practices for the Enterprise Engineering team
Lead the education of employees in successfully utilizing approved processes
Resolve ambiguities in processes
Ensure team alignment with technical standards and strategic directions
Oversee and direct management of resource and work processes
Resolve escalated issues
Build and strengthen an OIT Goals and Imperatives culture in support of the Mission of BYU
Collaborate with OIT leadership to understand organizational goals and strategy regarding culture
Engage the team in OIT Goals, Initiatives, and other activities designed to support the Mission of BYU
Define and implement strategies to build and evolve the culture to create a team that is an employer of choice
Facilitate and encourage professional development, training, and participation in OIT and university recognition programs
Respond to strategic initiatives
Represent team in conveying available levels of engineer development and maintenance resources to Portfolio Strategy teams and the OIT Strategy Council
Collaborate with OIT leadership to understand organizational goals, strategies, and roadmaps regarding technology
Oversee current and future management of team resources in preparation to support and execute strategies and roadmaps
Participate in definition of technical standards needed for executing strategic directions and roadmaps
What qualifies you for this role:
Minimum education/experience required :
A Bachelor’s degree is required for this position, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities have been acquired. Requires a minimum of 5 years’ experience with, and in-depth understanding of, IT processes and systems, with at least 2 years of those involved in leadership/management of a technical department/organization.
Preferred :
Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) experience strongly preferred.
Master’s degree.
Experience managing technical organizations, implementing quality initiatives within organizations, and leading change initiatives in challenging environments; experience in related managerial capacities including financial management and human resource responsibilities.
Strong preference to the candidate who has experience managing individuals in a Higher Ed IT environment.

Compensation Range
Actual compensation based on education and experience
