Position Summary: The Staff Accountant will: complete gross margin analyses related to the company's products; keep track of inventory quantities and values; help to calculate costs of goods sold on the company's financial reports; keep track of factory costs and variances from expectations; review and update manufacturing rates and costs for use in valuation of inventory and calculation of selling prices for products.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collect and analyze data to determine costs of business activity such as raw material purchases, labor costs, benefits costs, and factory overhead.
- Maintain data pertaining to full import supply chain for finished goods and other imported materials, including container costs, fees, handling charges, etc.
- Analyze changes in product design, materials, manufacturing methods, and/or services provided to determine effects on costs – update item costs as needed
- Collect direct labor and product development labor information and prepare reports for distribution to relevant management personnel
- Provide management with reports specifying and comparing factors affecting prices and profitability of products or services
- Assist in month-end and year-end close of the General Ledger
- Conduct physical inventories and monitors cycle count program
- Reconcile all inventories of raw materials, work in process, and finished goods
- Other assignments and responsibilities as directed by management.
Position Qualifications:
- The Staff Accountant must be able to use MRP software as well as software containing spreadsheets with complicated formulas.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of the company as well as with certain outside parties such as auditors and suppliers.
- The position will be responsible for preparing daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports as needed as well as work with multiple deadlines and functional areas.
- Strong Excel skills as well as the ability to work with Access, Outlook, and Word are required.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelors Degree in Accounting a plus.
- Minimum of 2 solid years of cost accounting in a manufacturing environment
- Cost systems background with understanding of a standard cost environment
- Excellent analytical skills
- Experience with Global Shop Solutions is a plus.
- Experience working with engineering and manufacturing personnel on development and analysis of cost standards
- Excel proficient
