Our client, a high-growth technology company based in San Francisco, is seeking a Director of Tax to lead and scale its global tax function. This is a strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of income tax while also providing direction to indirect tax operations. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation from public accounting and/or industry, along with experience supporting companies through high-growth phases, including IPO readiness or public company environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the company’s global income tax function, including provision, compliance, and tax planning initiatives
- Manage and mentor tax team members, including oversight of indirect tax (sales/use, VAT) functions
- Drive quarterly and annual tax provision processes in accordance with ASC 740
- Oversee development and execution of tax strategies to optimize the company’s effective tax rate
- Partner closely with Finance, Legal, and executive leadership on tax implications of business decisions, M&A, and structuring
- Support IPO readiness efforts and/or operate effectively within a public company framework (SOX compliance, SEC reporting)
- Liaise with external advisors, auditors, and tax authorities
- Monitor and interpret changes in tax legislation and assess impact to the business
- Implement scalable processes and systems to support continued growth
Qualifications
- 10 years of progressive tax experience in public accounting, industry, or a combination of both
- Prior experience in the technology sector strongly preferred
- Demonstrated experience with IPO readiness, public company reporting, or similar environments
- Deep expertise in U.S. federal and state income tax, with working knowledge of international tax concepts
- Experience managing or overseeing indirect tax functions (sales/use tax, VAT)
- CPA required (or equivalent certification)
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Master’s in Taxation a plus
