Landscape CAD Technician
Overview
The Landscape CAD Technician supports the design and production of high‑quality landscape architecture and site development drawings. This role is responsible for preparing accurate construction documents, design layouts, and technical details using CAD software, while collaborating closely with landscape architects, designers, and project managers to deliver projects on schedule and in accordance with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and revise landscape construction drawings, details, and layouts using AutoCAD and related design software
- Develop site plans, planting plans, grading concepts, irrigation layouts, and hardscape details
- Interpret design sketches, redlines, and verbal direction from landscape architects and project leads
- Maintain CAD standards, layer protocols, and file organization for consistency across projects
- Coordinate drawing updates based on client feedback, agency comments, and field conditions
- Assist with quantity takeoffs, material schedules, and basic design calculations
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including civil engineers, surveyors, and contractors
- Support project documentation from conceptual design through construction administration
- Ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable codes and project requirements
Qualifications
- Associate degree or certification in Drafting, Landscape Architecture, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 2 years of experience producing landscape or site construction drawings (preferred)
- Proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with Land F/X a plus or similar software
- Working knowledge of landscape construction methods, materials, and terminology
- Ability to read and understand civil, architectural, and survey drawings
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management skills
- Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate within a team environment
Preferred Skills
- Experience with planting design documentation and irrigation drawings
- Understanding of grading basics and site constraints
- Experience working on commercial, residential, or municipal landscape projects
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet project deadlines
- Combination of independent production work and team coordination
