Campus Minister

Job Summary

Bread Staff members are campus ministers - they are the eyes, ears, hands and feet of Bread Coffeehouse communities. They consistently create spaces and opportunities for college students to experience and practice the way of Jesus together. They are great listeners and love cultivating and participating in holy conversations.

Qualifications:

• Is in agreement with Bread Coffeehouse’s statement of belief, mission, core values, behavioral covenant and philosophy of ministry.
• Is committed to the Lordship of Jesus Christ, demonstrating mature Christian character, involvement in the local church and a clear calling to ministry.
• Has ministry experience (college ministry preferred).
• Possesses a Bachelor’s degree and some theological training.

Roles & Responsibilities:

• Small Groups are Bread’s “main event”. Staff are responsible for warmly inviting students into small group environments that facilitate relationship, depth and growth - and ultimately point to Jesus.
• Event planning & execution. Work as a team to deliver excellent and engaging weekly programming, retreats, partner events, love in action opportunities and more. Attend weekly tactical meetings.
• Leadership Development. Staff work together to invest in students most involved in the Bread Community, creating opportunities for them to mature in their faith and take ownership of the ministry.
• Outreach. Campus ministers will often meet students on the campus where they serve, attend sports events, arts performances, or distribute coffee on campus to connect with returning students, meet new students, and engage in the life of the university.
• Hospitality. Bread campus ministers curate a sense of “home” in the campus house. When a student walks in, it’s the staff’s job to make it apparent that they are seen, known, and most welcome. The way to a college student’s heart is through love, acceptance, sweet treats and warm drinks. Occasionally this means cleaning a bathroom, cooking meals, and serving as a barista.
• Fundraising. All Bread staff embrace the challenge of rallying partners (prayer, financial and volunteers) around the mission of reaching the next generation with the love of Jesus through hospitable community.

Organizational Relationship & Expectations:

• Bread staff members report to the location team leader and primarily serve students on their specific college campus.
• Staff are expected to develop ministry partnerships that help them reach full funding.
• Staff are expected to operate with professionalism and integrity in their confidentiality, work ethic and communication with students, staff and ministry partners.
• This is a year-round position. Often most of the student facing work happens between August and May, and the partner development work in June and July, with some exceptions.
• Practice healthy self-care, including Sabbath, as well as maintaining a passion for developing the next generation of Christian leaders, actively inviting them to engage in God’s global mission.
