CNC Machine Shop Apprentice - Pontiac, MI - 1st Shift - Contract
OVERVIEW:
Join the team that builds parts for racing engines. From the Daytona 500 to international competitions in France, you’ll see your work on the track every weekend. This is an entry-level opportunity to learn from some of the best machinists in the industry, gain hands-on experience with CNC machines, and contribute to parts that power our world-class racing and defense programs.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in setup and operation of CNC mills, lathes, and machine tools.
- Learn CNC programming basics (G-code, M-code, CAD/CAM software).
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and part prints.
- Load/unload parts, clean machines, and perform basic maintenance.
- Measure and inspect finished parts using precision instruments (calipers, micrometers).
- Support production of performance components to exact engineering specifications.
- Work closely with senior machinists and team leads in a collaborative shop environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Machine Shop Knowledge – hands-on experience or coursework in machining.
- Mechanical Aptitude – ability to work with tools, machinery, and technical instructions.
- Part Print Reading – familiarity with interpreting drawings and specs.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 2 years of experience in a shop, machining, or technical environment.
- Strong work ethic, willingness to learn, and ability to follow instructions.
- Comfortable lifting up to 50 lbs and standing for extended periods.
- Exposure to CNC programming (G-code/M-code) preferred.
- Familiarity with CAD/CAM software preferred.
- Experience with manual machining or shop tools preferred.
SCHEDULE:
- 1st Shift
- 6:00 AM – 3:00 PM
- Occasional travel to Grand Blanc, MI (will be reimbursed for mileage)
- 50-week assignment - strong possibility of extension
- Approx. 10 hrs/week of OT required
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Pay: $23.00 - $27.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 55 per week
