Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Nutrition Director, this position coordinates and assists with all aspects of the congregate and home delivered meals programs. Serves as coordinator of volunteers within the nutrition program. Oversees kitchen, dining room, and meal delivery operations during lunch service. Compiles and assists with a variety of records and reports. This position serves as a back-up to the Nutrition Director when the Director is absent from work on meal service days.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinating food service operations, including maintaining the cleanliness of food preparation areas, food transport, and storage equipment. It also requires monitoring and controlling food inventory, ensuring safe food handling techniques, and guaranteeing compliance with all regulations and guidelines from funding sources, regulatory agencies, and the Board.
- Coordinates volunteers, including training, assigning work, scheduling and reviewing completed work products.
- Monitor daily & monthly menus, meal temperatures, portion control and food quality. Maintain food service equipment is in good working order.
- Oversee the delivery of meals including route planning.
- Knowledge in the entry of statistical data to the computer regarding nutrition food programs and creates required reports for funding sources.
- Participate in client intake informational interviews and respond to questions and concerns.
- Substitutes for any nutrition program staff as necessary including but not limited to the delivery of meals cooking of food, serving of food, washing of dishes and equipment, mopping of floor, etc.
- Responsible for the completion of basic cleaning of the kitchen and dining room facilities.
- Ensure compliance with the Bureau of Aging, Community Living, and Support’s operating standards for home delivered meals and congregate meals.
- Shall remain informed regarding Board of Director policies, membership and general senior center services.
- Shall maintain good communications with participants attending the senior center.
- Shall practice standardized procedures, policies and program objectives to improve efficiency and effectiveness of operations.
- Shall demonstrate a good working relationship with all staff members by working as a team member.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Director(s).
- It is recognized that responsibilities may dictate the devotion of time outside the normal office hour schedule.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: High school graduate or GED Equivalent
- Experience: One or more years of food service experience including purchasing, and other food service supervising responsibilities. Prefer, but not required experience working with older adults, some of which included working with nutritional programs and volunteer activities.
Qualifications
- Able to work with accuracy in Access, Excel, and Word
- Ability to work well with senior citizens
- Good organizational and time management skills
- Ability to multi-task
- Use tools and equipment necessary to accomplish assigned tasks
- Ability to demonstrate and sustain strong work ethic, evidenced by prompt and consistent attendance and diligence in completing tasks
- Follow written or verbal directions
Other Requirements
- Valid Michigan Driver’s License.
- Must pass a Criminal Background Check, Sex Offender Registry Check and Driver History Check.
- May be required to complete ServSafe Certification and Allergen Awareness.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to travel throughout the county to public buildings and private homes
- Ability to enter and retrieve information from a computer.
- Ability to access departmental files.
- Ability to fill in for home delivery drivers as necessary.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to fill in as needed as a cook, dishwasher, delivery driver, and other functions of nutrition program staff.
Working Conditions
- This position is mainly in a commercial kitchen and dining room. At times, travel will be required within the county to private homes.
