Job Summary: The Banking Services Team Leader is responsible for overseeing the execution, control, and continuous improvement of day-to-day banking operations within the Banking Services function. This role ensures the accurate, timely, and compliant processing of domestic and international payment activities while maintaining strong operational controls, regulatory compliance, and high service quality.
The position provides hands-on leadership to a team supporting wire transfers, ACH, checks, bill payments, foreign exchange transactions, and payment messaging activities (SWIFT/Fedwire). The role acts as a key first-line operational partner to Compliance, Risk, Technology, and Finance, supporting stable operations, audit readiness, and payments innovation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Payment Operations & Transaction Processing
Oversee daily processing of domestic and international wire transfers (Fedwire, SWIFT), ACH transactions, check processing, bill payments, letters of credit and foreign exchange transactions.
Ensure transactions are processed accurately, timely, and in accordance with internal procedures, regulatory requirements, and service level expectations.
Review operational exceptions, processing errors, and rejects, ensuring timely investigation and resolution.
- Compliance, Risk & Control Management
Ensure operational compliance with BSA/AML and USA PATRIOT Act requirements, OFAC sanctions screening, and Regulation E (where applicable).
Partner with Compliance and Risk teams on monitoring reviews, investigations, regulatory inquiries, and control enhancements.
Act as a first line of defense, ensuring controls are embedded into daily operations and new initiatives.
- Audit, Reporting & Issue Resolution
Lead remediation of findings from internal audits, external audits, and regulatory examinations, including FDIC reviews.
Develop and track corrective action plans, maintaining audit-ready documentation and procedures.
- Team Leadership & Workforce Management
Lead, coach, and develop a team of Banking Services analysts and specialists, supporting hiring, onboarding, performance management, and training.
- Reconciliations & Financial Controls
Ensure daily reconciliation of payment-related general ledger and suspense accounts and timely resolution of outstanding breaks.
- Systems, Projects & Continuous Improvement
Support implementation and enhancement of banking platforms, automation initiatives, and payment system upgrades.
Ensure business continuity and contingency procedures are documented, tested, and understood.
- Digital & Payments Innovation
Support the adoption and operational readiness of digital and real-time payment solutions, including RTP and FedNow where applicable.
Partner with Technology, Product, Operations, and Risk teams to support platform implementations, workflow automation, STP, and exception management.
Support go-live readiness for new payment capabilities, including procedures, controls, training, and risk assessments.
Qualifications & Experience
Education & Experience
- Associate’s Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Demonstrated experience in banking or payments operations; prior supervisory experience preferred.
Skills & Knowledge
- Working knowledge of SWIFT, Fedwire/FedLine, ACH, payment controls, and operational risk frameworks. Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and communication abilities.
Language Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish. Portuguese preferred.
