Role Summary

The Midstream Optimization Engineer is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and implementing opportunities to improve the performance, reliability, and value generation of BPX's midstream infrastructure. This role works closely with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Pipelines, SWD, Commercial, and Technology teams to support optimization initiatives across gas, oil, water, and produced fluid systems.

The successful candidate will leverage operational data, engineering principles, and field engagement to identify system constraints, improve asset utilization, and deliver measurable business value. The role requires a strong analytical mindset, a passion for continuous improvement, and the ability to translate insights into practical operational solutions.

Field engagement is expected to build relationships, understand operational challenges, and ensure solutions are applicable and sustainable in daily operations.

Key Accountabilities

System Optimization & Performance Improvement

• Develop tools to supervise system performance, pressures, rates, and operating conditions to identify optimization opportunities.
• Support efforts to maximize throughput, minimize production deferment, and improve asset utilization.
• Evaluate constraints across gathering, compression, treating, pipeline, and water systems and recommend corrective actions.
• Quantify the operational and financial impact of optimization initiatives.
• Assist in developing operational strategies that improve flow assurance and system efficiency.

Reliability & Operational Support

• Support Operations and Maintenance teams in identifying and resolving equipment or system reliability issues.
• Support Operations and Maintenance with workflow mapping and optimization
• Participate in troubleshooting efforts during outages, upsets, and abnormal operating conditions.
• Analyze recurring operational issues and develop recommendations to reduce risk and improve performance.
• Support continuous improvement of response plans and operating procedures.

Analytics, Reporting & Digital Solutions

• Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and analytical tools that improve visibility into system performance.
• Analyze operational and commercial data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and optimization opportunities.
• Utilize data analytics, pattern recognition, and anomaly detection techniques to support decision-making.
• Assist with implementation of new technologies and digital tools that improve operational performance.

Commercial & Joint Venture Support

• Support tracking and analysis of midstream agreements, processing commitments, and third-party connections.
• Assist with forecasting, scenario evaluations, and economic assessments of optimization opportunities.
• Identify opportunities to improve commercial outcomes while maintaining operational reliability.

Continuous Improvement

• Participate in Root Cause Failure Analyses (RCFAs) and other continuous improvement initiatives.
• Track optimization opportunities and support implementation of corrective actions.
• Promote a data-driven approach to operational decision-making.
• Share lessons learned and best practices across teams.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering with proven understanding of oil and gas production, gathering, and processing operations
• 5-10 years of experience supporting oil and gas production, facilities, midstream, water management, or operations engineering.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively across technical and operational teams.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Travel: 25% travel to field locations

• Note that the pay range listed for this position is a good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible base compensation at the time of posting.
