The High School Teen Coordinator supports the daily operations of teen-focused programs, creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for high school members. This role assists in the planning, coordination, and delivery of academic support, workforce readiness, leadership, and enrichment programs that prepare teens for post-secondary success. The Teen Coordinator builds strong relationships with youth, families, schools, and community partners, while upholding the Club’s Guiding Principles of Excellence, Belonging, Continuous Improvement, Accountability, and Collective Impact.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervision & Safety
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all youth participants at all times.
- Maintain active sight and sound supervision, ensuring both physical and emotional safety of all youth.
- Complete accurate face counts and attendance checks, and follow all safety, bathroom, and transition procedures.
- Oversee proper food distribution, sanitation, and cleaning protocols, checking for allergies and dietary restrictions.
- Provide a secure, orderly, and inclusive environment both indoors and outdoors.
- Substitute or step into youth/staff ratio to provide coverage when necessary.
Program Delivery & Engagement
- Plan and oversee program activities that support academic, social-emotional, and physical development.
- Ensure youth are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas and receive instruction and constructive feedback.
- Support implementation of organizational initiatives (e.g., academic, social-emotional, or technology-based programs).
- Lead, support, and participate in culminating events that highlight youth achievement and community engagement.
- Ensure programs are evaluated regularly and respond to the needs and interests of members.
Staff Supervision & Leadership
- Train, supervise, and mentor Youth Development Professionals, Program Support Aides, Front Desk Associates, volunteers, and interns.
- Provide ongoing feedback, performance appraisals, and coaching to ensure program quality.
- Support staff professional development by identifying and promoting training opportunities.
- Enforce behavioral management procedures and ensure staff use positive guidance strategies and restorative practices.
- Foster a trauma-informed culture by modeling and guiding staff in practices that support emotional safety and resilience.
- Recognize and celebrate staff and youth achievements.
Behavior Guidance & Communication
- Establish and reinforce clear rules and expectations for behavior.
- Use positive discipline, redirection, restorative practices, and trauma-informed strategies to guide behavior.
- Communicate with youth in respectful, supportive, and age-appropriate ways.
- Maintain open, professional communication with parents/guardians, community partners, volunteers, coworkers, and supervisors to ensure program success and strong relationships.
- Model and reinforce the mission, values, and guiding principles of the Boys & Girls Clubs through actions and interactions.
Family, School & Community Engagement
- Maintain open and professional communication with parents/guardians regarding attendance, behavior, and program updates.
- Build and maintain relationships with school principals, teachers, and district representatives.
- Represent the Club at school, community, and partner meetings or events as requested.
- Promote membership recruitment and orientation, ensuring enrollment and attendance goals are met.
Professional Standards
- Consistently adhere to the organizational dress code (staff shirt, name tag, and professional appearance).
- Maintain punctuality, reliability, and professional conduct at all times.
- Accurately clock in and out, and ensure all hours worked are properly recorded.
- Monitor and manage staff time entries in the time management system to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Model and reinforce the mission, values, and guiding principles of the Boys & Girls Clubs through actions and interactions.
Administrative & Compliance
- Oversee membership paperwork, parent accounts, attendance sheets, sign-in/out processes, and fee collection. Ensure accurate daily submission of paperwork and payments to the membership department.
- Accurately record site reports, incident/accident reports, discipline reports, and grant-related documentation.
- Ensure compliance with licensing regulations, Club policies, and grant requirements.
- Manage site supplies, equipment, and technology, ensuring proper care and reporting of damaged/missing items.
- Complete purchase orders, weekly/monthly reports, and grant reports accurately and on time.
- Assure grant-funded programs are implemented on schedule with timely, accurate reporting and supporting documentation.
Training & Professional Development
- Complete all required continuing education units (CEUs) as mandated by the NJ Office of Licensing.
- Participate in Spillett University trainings, Club-led trainings, and other professional development opportunities.
- Attend all required in-person training, orientations, and staff meetings.
- Demonstrate commitment to continuous improvement by applying training and feedback in daily practice.
- Ensure that assigned staff attend and complete all required training, meetings, and certifications, and provide accountability and support as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Bachelor’s degree in education, youth development, or related field from an accredited college or university preferred.
· preferred; equivalent experience considered.
· Minimum of three to five years’ work experience in non-profit agency operations
· Management and supervision, or an equivalent combination of experience and
· education.
· Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of non-profit
· organizations.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/REQUIREMENTS:
· Demonstrated ability in hiring, training, onboarding, management and performance appraisal.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to work during Club hours as needed.
· Ability to work effectively with children, family members, Club staff, organizations, community groups and the public.
· Ability to motivate youth and constructively manage behavior challenges.
· Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid Certifications.
· Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Word & Excel)
· Attention to Detail
· Demonstrated ability to organize, direct and coordinate.
· Ability to manage multiple tasks and to develop solutions to problems with
limited supervision.
ENVIRONMENTAL and WORKING CONDITIONS:
· Primary all work is conducted in a Club setting, indoors, and outdoors with occasional off-site trips.
· Ability to work program hours as assigned, including evenings and some weekends for teen events.
· Limited travel is required.
